ABOUT ME

I was introduced to fishing at the age of seven by my Uncle Robert McGarry. We fished together on tributaries of the River Clyde and on the River Allander catching wild brown trout.
Since starting this business in 1999 I have specialised in teaching and guiding on stillwaters large and small fishing for Brown and Rainbow Trout. From well stocked waters of a few acres through to large lochs I will find a water to suit both your needs and experience level.

I am one of a few instructors that hold the prestigious Scottish Game Angling Instructors Certificate (SGAIC). In addition I am Licensed, Insured and Accreditated through the Scottish Anglers National Association (SANA). As part of my Certificate I hold a current First Aid Certificate and have Full Disclosure Scotland which allows me to work safely with both young and vulnerable people in our communities. I am also a full member of the Game Angling Instructors Association (GAIA).

My style of teaching is quite simplistic and very relaxed which I believe puts clients at ease and helps them to progress quickly with a little effort on their part. I promise not to fill your head with complicated casting jargon and unnecessary terminology.

As a full time instructor and guide I am available seven days a week including evenings to fit in with your busy schedule.

At one time I was a successful competition angler winning some fifty events but now I concentrate fully on tuition and guiding.
I have had more than 1,000 fishing articles published. The Herald newspaper has both printed my articles and carried  several features about my fishing business. In 2009 BBC Radio Scotland used me to explain the art of fly casting on the popular Fred MacAuley show. Several of the top fly-fishing magazines have published my articles over the years.

In 2015 I was asked by Scierra UK to be a part of their Pro Team. This prestigious tackle company have a great name for their state of the art tackle and I am delighted to be a part of it. Also from 2016 I have became a consultant and ambassador for Flash Attack Flies. part of my remit is to design, test and promote their superb range of flies. I am indeed proud to be a part of this young and energetic company run by Craig Barr.
